Taking on an Oily Face

Oily skin can be a huge pain and sometimes a nightmare for women, including myself. Oily skin is prone to pimples and sometimes up-keeping makeup can be a drag. Do not fret or curse the oily skin you were born with, instead choose beauty products that will help control excess oil and will keep you looking fresh all day. Below are some of my personal favorite beauty products I use for my oily skin.

Keep it clean!
Make sure to wash your face every morning and every night, no matter how late you stay out. Since dirt can easily build up on oily skin, it is important to keep it clean with a powerful cleanser that will remove not only your make-up, but the dead skin and dirt. Some of my favorites are Murad’s Redness Therapy Soothing Gel Cleanser, The gel reduces irritation and redness by washing away impurities as it conditions skin to alleviate tightness, stinging and sensitivity.

Another favorite of mine is Lancôme’s Gel Pure Focus oil control cleansing gel, This oil-free micro-bead gel formula instantly removes makeup and impurities without stripping away essential moisture. This is important because doing away with too much oil will make the skin dry, oil keeps it moisturized.

I have used and loved all these cleansers, but my current obsession is Philosophy’s Purity Made Simple one-step facial cleanser. This cleanser takes off my makeup and leaves my skin feeling hydrated. I’ve also noticed this cleaner has evened out my skin tone which is amazing!

Tone up your skin
Former Lancôme make-up artist, Amaris Dominguez, informed me that toners work to take out excess oil in pores, so use them well. Use one that will hydrate the skin. Avoid toners with too much alcohol in them; alcohol can dry up the skin. My favorite is Kinerase Hydrating Antioxidant Spray, this misting spray toner improves skin with multiple anti-oxidants to prevent free radical damage that can be caused by daily exposure to the environment and in LA that is crucial.

Choosing the right moisturizer
First and foremost, go with a moisturizer that is oil-control and not oil-free. I have found that some oil-free moisturizers can make the skin produce more excess oil or the polar opposite, make my skin dry.  Dominguez also says the amount of alcohol and drying powders in some oil-free products can make the skin dry. I love and I mean love MAC Cosmetics Oil Control Lotion which has been in my routine for the last eight months. It’s lightweight and lays instantly matte, bonding makeup to the skin for fewer touch-ups. Let me tell you, of all the moisturizers I’ve tried, this is the winner.

Sheets that will save help your face
Oil absorbent sheets will have the skin looking fresh without having to pile on more make-up to hide the shine. Most packs are small enough to carry in your purse or makeup bag and are one of many makeup lifesavers. Clean & Clear have a great oil absorbent sheet as well as Palladio with their rice paper sheets.

Oily skin can be a pain, but it’s really a curse disguised as a blessing. Looking at the bigger picture, women with oily skin age much better and have less wrinkles! I say to myself every day. If you have products to swear by, post below!

What Not to Wear to Coachella Music Festival

Coachella, Coachella, Coachella!! Everyone and I mean everyone in the fashion industry is blogging about what to wear to the music festival, how to wear your hair and who to see and so forth, but what you should really know about Coachella Music Festival is how to survive it–fashion wise at least.

Gaining popularity more and more each year and selling out faster and faster, I can only assume many of the people going are first timers. I’ve gone to Coachella many many times, but sadly I will not being going this year. Nonetheless I know a thing or two about surviving the three-day weekend in one piece. Here are some fashion surviving tips and items you should not wear during your musical weekend.

1. Do not wear open toe shoes or flip-flops

Naturally, it makes sense to wear your open toe shoes, you want to be comfortable, but leaving the festival due to a broken toe or foot is not fun. The tents and stages get extremely packed, especially if you plan on seeing any of the popular headliners. People start to push, shove, run and your toes are at their mercy. There are many foot candy options for you to wear that are adorable and will provide protection.

Rocket Dog $38

Glitter Tom’s $54

2. Do not wear expensive sunnies

Why risk loosing or breaking you Ray-Ban’s or Prada’s? Yes, I know they’re amazing and look great with your maxi skirt, but why take that chance? Get a pair of cute sunnies that are inexpensive and you can throw around in your tote when the sun has set. Forever 21 has an amazing selection and they’re less then $8!

$5.80, can’t beat that!

3. Do not wear a lot of makeup

This festival takes place in the desert, it’s either going to be really hot or raining. Half the day you’ll have sunnies on and the other half will be dark with only your glow sticks to use as light. Keep the cosmetics to a minimum, a little powder, some water proof mascara, a bright lipstick and you’ll be ready to roll!

MAC Cosmetics: Impassioned $14.50

Dior: Declamation Pink $32

Be safe and make sure to stay hydrated! xoxo

Bonjour 2012!

Looking at my entries, it’s obvious I’ve been on a hiatus, but that will no longer be the case for 2012. Things are fallen into place very nicely the past couple of months and I am committing to this blog now more than ever. Enough with the chit-chat. May 2012 be a special year for all of us!
