Music Monday: Nine Inch Nails {NEW Single}

I wasn’t kidding last week, when I said  summer is the perfect time of the year where artists and bands release new music. Next on the list, Nine Inch Nails. Thank goodness Trent Reznor took a break from composing musical scores and dusting off his Oscar to create some NIN newness. The new single is called Came Back Haunted and as per usual, NIN keeps to their rock, industrial roots pair with electrifying vocals and a aggressive tempo. If Came Back Hunted is just the tip of the iceberg for NIN’s new album, then September needs to get here sooner. The new album, Hesitation Marks, is set to be released September 3 and can be pre-ordered on the NIN site here.

Music Monday: NEW Hot Chip

Aside from the gorgeous weather, one of the other reasons I love summer is all the new music. Summer is the season where bands and artists tend to release new albums and if we’re lucky, go on tour. Hot Chip has been on my radar for years and it was at this years Coachella that I finally had the pleasure of seeing them live and they completely blew my mind. Easily one of my favorite performances of the weekend.

Today, the British electronic music band from London released the song Dark & Stormy which will be released as a single along with feature remixes of In Our Heads tracks by Major Lazer, Sasha, Daphni and Todd Terje. It’ll drop in the U.S. July 23. Until then take a listen to the track below.

Music Monday: Daft Punk {Instant Crush}

In honor of Daft Punk’s highly anticipated album, Random Access Memories, it only seems fitting I feature a song from the album as today’s Music Monday. Aside from their single Get Lucky, THIS song, Instant Crush, is my FAVORITE on the newalbum. Yes, I love Daft Punk and yes, I love Julian Casablancas (lead singer of The Strokes) and together they make magic. I may be making a mountain out of a molehill, but I know a good song when I hear it and Instant Crush is the track I’m going to be playing all summer. <3

Music Monday: Azealia Banks

Last week, when I saw The Great Gatsby (auh-mazing) there was preview for The Bling Ring. The Bling Ring is Sofia Coppola’s new movie based on true events. A series of robberies conducted by a group of teenagers who were stealing from celebrities in the Hollywood Hills in 2008 and 2009. The movie looks interesting, I’m not 100% sold on it, but I do love Sofia Coppola and I plan on watching it this summer when it’s released.

Along with great story lines and directing, Sofia Coppola is known for having kick ass music in her movies. During The Bling Ring preview this Azealia Banks song started playing and I’ve been obsessed with it since. It has some explicit lyrics, you’ve been warned, but it makes me want to get down, as many songs do.

And here is the preview for The Bling Ring

Music Monday: Jack White {The Great Gatsby}

Baz Luhrmann’s (director of Romeo & Juliet and Moulin Rouge) adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby come out this weekend and while many people (including myself) are beyond stoked for the film, the soundtrack for The Great Gatsby is filled with a who’s-who of the music industry. The soundtrack includes an eclectic group of artists and bands, from Jay-Z and Beyonce to The XX and Lana Del Rey. This soundtrack has something for everyone’s musical tastes and is perfect for someone like myself whose taste in music is super eclectic. Of course a Baz Luhrmann soundtrack would not be complete without a song from musical genius that is Jack White.

Jack White’s Love is Blindness track plays toward the end of the trailer, when things start to get less glamours and more dramatic. The song fits perfectly in the films plot line.

If you’re unfamiliar with The Great Gatsby, I don’t want to go into too much detail, but know it’s about money, glamour, booze, love, betrayal and no matter how much money you have, there will always be problems and money cannot buy you love. Mo money, mo problems. The Great Gatsby is by far one of the best pieces of American literature and I look forward to seeing Baz Luhrmann’s take on the story.

Are you going to watch The Great Gatsby this weekend?

Music Monday: NEW Depeche Mode

I don’t think I can take any more music news (kidding). Not only is Depeche Mode touring this year for their release of their 2013 album Delta Machine, but Crystal Castles is opening for them for a tons of their shows including L.A. The last time DM went on tour was in 2009 following the release Sounds of the Universe album and just last week they played the single Heaven from the upcoming Delta Machine. What do you think? Is it gonna be a hit?

Music Monday: Modest Mouse

2013 seems to be a kick ass year for music, as mentioned in other Music Monday posts, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs AND The Postal Service are coming out with albums, but now add Modest Mouse to that ever growing list. Their long-awaited sixth studio album, their first since parting ways with Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, who joined on the band’s 2007 release We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank has high hopes to be something good. I remember seeing Marr play with Modest Mouse, it was magical, simply magical.

Six years is a long hiatus, but I have no doubt in my mind Modest Mouse still has it, the really cool part about their recording process? They’re recording at Big Boi‘s Stankonia Studios in Atlanta. That’s right, as in Big Boi from Outkast. This has the potential to be a great album, until the release later this year let’s boogie to Cities Made of Ashes from Modest Mouse’s 2000 album The Moon & Antarctica.

Music Monday: New Order

Weekend one of Coachella is 46 days away and the more I look at the line up, the more excited I am to get to go! From 2005 to 2010 I had gone every year, but due to how popular the festival scene has become I haven’t been able to grab tickets, until this year. Thanks to a friend who can’t go at the last minute, Coachella is going to happen this year and I couldn’t have asked for a better line up, well maybe a Smiths reunion, but I don’t think that will ever happen.

Although I am very excited to see New Order, Blur, The Postal Service, The Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, Hot Chip, Wu-Tang Clan and so many more. I’m a huge Joy Division fanatic and I have never seen New Order live, this is the closest I’ll get to seeing Joy Division and that makes my heart dance. Have a great Music Monday!

Music Monday: The Postal Service

In case you haven’t been keeping up with music news or peeped the Coachella line-up, The Postal Service have announced they’re back together and releasing a new album this year. My heart nearly jumped out my chest when I heard this news. The Postal Service is a electro music group made in heaven, kidding, but it is composed of Death Cab for Cutie vocalist Ben Gibbard, Jimmy Tamborello of Headset and Rilo Kiley’s Jenny Lewis. Close to heaven, right?

The trio debut album Give Up was released in February 2003, and was an instant hit. Their songs have be covered and mixed to no end and as the years have come and gone, people have been begging for another album. We’re finally getting one and it’s due to come out in April. Until then and until another 53 days until weekend one of Coachella, enjoy one of the tracks that started it all.

Music Monday: 2013 Grammy Round-Up

Sunday was music’s biggest night as artists from all generas gathered in one Los Angeles location for the 2013 Grammy’s. Although not all my favorite artists are Grammy winners or even nominees, it’s always fun seeing the winners, the fashion and some of my long time favorites like The Black Keys, Mumford & Sons and Jack White take the stage. I can’t imagen my life without music and I’m thankful for artists out there who are amazing at what they do and provide the soundtrack to my life.

Below were some of favorite looks from last night, who were your favorites?

Grammys13

Jennifer Lopez in Anthony Vaccarello. I love everything about her look. The dress is the definition of sexy, the shoes, the makeup, the hair; J.Lo is my girl.

Adele. There has been mixed reviews of Adele’s head-to-toe floral look, but I really liked it. I thought the cut was flattering and it was nice to her in a color other than black. The dress may not be a typical red carpet dress, but it’s very Adele and she looked amazing.

Oh Jack White, no one pulls off an all black suit like you do.

Katy Perry in Gucci. Amazing. The cut , color, length, this dress was pure perfection. By far my favorite Katy Perry look to date.

Taylor Swift in J. Mendel.

Rihanna in Alaia. I want this dress, SO bad. You go, Rihanna.

slide_279925_2087333_free

Beyonce in Osman. Effortlessly chic, she could have gone for a floor length gown or an amazing mini, but she did pants and aside from Janelle Monae, I don’t think any other person could have look this amazing.
