Hollywood & Fine: Mitch Stone Volumizing Spray

In the last year and a half, I’ve  ventured into the world of texturizing sprays. Texture sprays or volumizing texture sprays are products you put in your hair to give it volume and to make it appear thicker. Although my hair is long, it’s not very thick and can sometimes lay a little flat. Volumizing spray gives my hair that extra movement and presence. My newest adventure with volumizing texture spray lead me to try a newer one from Mitch Stone.

Celebrity stylist Mitch Stone developed his volumizing texture spray as a solution for fine, limp hair in need of volume, texture and dimension.  What’s inside this volumizing texture spray is a unique formula of vitamins and fruit extract (called VCompS), which infuses locks with extra body and lightweight, flexible hold.

What’s also beneficial about this spray is that it contains vitamin E for color protection and split end prevention, vitamin C – a highly effective antioxidant that protects cells from environmental free radical damage, vitamin B3 for moisture and emollience, B5 for its reparative properties, B6 for stimulation of hair growth and papaya extract  - a powerful antioxidant that is rich in moisturizing essential fatty acids. It’s always good to know what you’re putting in your hair especially when its colored. It was this reason Mitch Stone developed his line of hair care products, to enhance the beauty of the hair by addressing its health first.

I tried Mitch Stone’s volumizing texture spray for two months and within the first few tries I could see and feel the difference in my hair. My hair felt fuller and was easy to style. While my hair was still wet, I sprayed the volumizing spray at my roots, then blew my hair out for a full finish. Spraying it at my roots gave my hair full volume, very va-va-voom if you will. For a more tousled style, I scrunched it into my wet hair and air-dry. What’s great about this volumizing texture spray is it can be used on wet or dry hair for a variety of looks.

CoverGirl #StayFabulous Foundation

A couple months ago I was invited by COVERGIRL to try their new 3-in-1 Outlast Stay Fabulous foundation among tons of their other products. I was like a kid in a  candy store, lipsticks, blushes, mascara; it was a great time for a makeup junkie like myself. Now, I’ve always been very particular about what foundation I use because I don’t have the best skin. I like a good amount of coverage, but I don’t want to feel like I’m wearing a lot of foundation. I like my foundation to be light weight and have amazing coverage and over the years I’ve tried hundreds.

I was blown away by COVERGIRL’s  Outlast Stay Fabulous foundation. Never did I think that a drugstore foundation would give me the coverage I needed, I felt confident, but even better I felt fabulous. What’s amazing about this foundation is the 3-in-1, it’s a primer, foundation AND concealer! It doesn’t get better than that. That’s two less steps (primer and concealer) I have to do in the morning when putting on my face. The coverage is great and it’s very lightweight, the two things I value most when I’m shopping for foundation.

Check out the video below with myself and other amazing Latina bloggers as we try the NEW COVERGIRL’s  Outlast Stay Fabulous foundation!

It’s always good to have an array of foundations, you should always one for spring and one for fall because you are different shades throughout the year and you want your foundation to match your shade depending on what time of the year it is. Naturally, you have a slightly darker shade during summer (tanning!) and a light shades in winter.

If you’re a beauty junkie on a budget it’s smart to have your “everyday” foundation and your “special occasion” foundation. Your “everyday” foundation can be a drugstore brand or something mid price point and your ”special occasion” foundation is for evening and parties, weddings, dates, what have you. The COVERGIRL foundation has quickly become my everyday foundation!

I wanna know, what do you look for in a foundation? Have you tried the COVERGIRL’s?

Music Festival Beauty List {Coachella}

Only three days until weekend one of Coachella Music Festival,  your outfits are planned and you’re pulling out your sleeping bag and getting ready to take off on Thursday. It’s going to be hot and I don’t suggest putting on a heavy face of makeup, but wear what makes you feel comfortable. This beauty list is about keeping your skin safe in the sun, but still looking cute for all those Instagram photos.

Keep your makeup light and fresh, I use a sunblock lotion from Neutrogena called Age Shield on my face then I apply a little bit of concealer under my eyes and t-zone then I finish with a lightweight skinfinish powder.

For the rest of my face, I apply just a hint of eyeliner, lately my favorite has been CoverGirl’s LineExact liner in black brown (620). It goes on without fuss. It’s also smudge proof and sweat proof, two perfect qualities for makeup I plan on wearing in the desert. I suggest using a brown black liner versus a strong black because a brown black looks a lot more natural and will brighten up your face.

After the eyeliner, add some mascara then some lip protector then a bold, bright lip color and you’re festival ready! Check out the other things on my beauty list, with these items you’ll be festival ready in no time.

Flower Crown c/o Paola Loves to Shop, GermX hand sanitizer, Cynthia Rowley Band-Aids, TRESemme dry shampoo, baby wipes, water bottle

Dry shampoo and baby wipes are a girls best friend when camping at Coachella. There are showers, but having these things will come in handy, trust me. A bottle of hand sanitizer and band-aids are also smart things to have, along with a water bottle. The basics will go a long way in the desert.

Coachella would not be complete without a flower crown, so needless to say I was stoked when I received this one by Los Angeles accessories brand Paola Loves to Shop.

I think I’m officially READY for Coachella 2013!

Spring Nail Polish Picks

Spring has officially sprung (I’m sure you’re tired of hearing that already, right?) and our toes get to come out of hibernation and make their way into cute sandals and our finger tips get to adorn bright and pastel polishes. Below are just a few of my favorite colors that I love to wear during spring. Do you prefer brights or pastels more on your nails?

Also, I wish I was the girl in charge of thinking of names for nail polish colors, doesn’t that seem like a rad job?

1. Essie’s Good to Go top coat. I LOVE this top coat. If you’re like me and cannot wait for your nails to dry, this top coat will become your best friend. I put it on and in about 90 sec my nails are good to go!

2. American Apparel glitter polish in Galaxy. Anytime I want to give my polish a little kick, I layer this polish before my top coat and it does the trick every time.

Spring Beauty Essentials

Spring is creeping up and what better time to prep for a warm season than with some beauty essentials. I put together a might fine list of my beauty must haves and I think it’s time for them to enter your life as well. What are some of your Spring Beauty Essentials?

From left: MAC’s ChatterBox, a perfect light pink color that would look great with a smokey golden eye.

CoverGirl 350 Eternal, a beautiful fuchsia color that can be worn during the day or night.

Illamasqua in Flare, this is what an orange/coral lipstick should look like, keep the rest of your face simple with this color, black eyeliner and mascara will do the trick.

Emani in Promiscuous (vegan) this is the perfect blue based red lipstick I’ve ever owned. Pair it with a classic smokey eye and your ready to hit the town. For a day time look, wear Promiscuous with a pink or peach blush and simple black eyeliner and mascara.

CoverGirl 300 Flame is a great lip color between orange and red. Pair the lip color with a peach blush and neutral eye and let your lips be your pop of color.

Dior 475 Rose Caprice, I love this bright pink color! It goes on so bright and it’s a perfect pastel color. This lip color is great for a day or night. Pair it  with a basic eyeliner, mascara for day and a smokey eye for night, with hints of purple if you’re not afraid of color.  ;)

Before I wash my face, I use these Olay wet clothes to take off a good amount of my makeup. They always make me feel so refreshed, even though I just removed my entire face. They’re great for sensitive skin and you might be thinking “Do I really need anti-aging products in my 20′s?” and the answer is yes. It’s never to early to start using anti-aging products, it’s a very smart move to start using them once you’ve reached 24 or 25, you’ll be happy you did.

From left: Pure Argan Oil is amazing, you know why? You can put it anywhere. Well, almost anywhere. It’s a great moisturizing oil for your skin and hair. I love putting it on my face at night and it’s a great products to moisturize your cuticles. It’s perfect to run it through your hair and ends when they’re look a little dry or start to split.

Benefit’s Stay Don’t Stray eyeshadow primer, when it starts to get warm the last things you want to happen is for your eyeshadow to crease. This primer helps your shadow stay intact throughout a warm spring day and a little goes a long way with this eyeshadow primer, you just need a tiny dab on each eye.

Makeup Forever’s HD Primer, after you’ve put on moisturizer, you put the primer on your t-zone and cheeks and this will smooth out skin with applying foundation or powder. If you have big pores like me, or just want a photo finish, this primer is perfect.

GlitterontheCeiling

The Miss Dior Cherie perfume has been my go-to scent for about three years and as you can see, I’m a huge fan as you can tell by the nearly empty bottle. It’s the perfect light scent that leaves you feel fresh from the morning you spray it on, until the evening when your changing into your PJ’s.

The Joico Joimist finishing spray has quickly become one of my favor ties. I’m a huge fan of their K-Pax shine serum and their  hair spray holds a look in place without giving hair the hairspray crunch look.

From left: By far my favorite brow tool. The Urban Decay Brow Box comes with two shades, wax, a brush and tweezers, everything you need to fill in your brows.

I am so thankful my makeup artist friend introduced me to the Long-Lasting Setting Spray about two years ago. After spending a good amount of time making yourself look amazing, spray the setting spray to really lock in everything. It’ll keep your makeup looking fresh all day and night. This is great for the spring because it keeps your face looking fresh all day, regardless of the heat.

BEAUTY TIP: If you’ve never been one to fill in your eyebrows, you should give it a try! The brows frame your face and can easily change your look, you don’t have to fill them in heavily, but filling in little areas will really brighten your face.

IMG_0301

Eyelash Curler and Clump Crusher mascara from CoverGirl, the slight angle to the brush allows getting in the corners of your eye, getting every single one of those eyelashes.

Lime Crime liquid eyeliner in Citreuse has quickly become my new favorite eyeliner. Every time I wear it I always get asked who makes it and now you know! The pigment is amazing, yes, it really goes on that bright, it’s a true neon eyeliner.

BEAUTY TIP: If your going to wear a neon eyeliner lay it above black eyeliner to give it more definition. You’re not laying the neon on top of the black, but laying the black and then right above the black put the neon. Also, don’t be afraid to pair it with a bright pink or fuchsia lipstick, think of it as color blocking your makeup. ;)   See how I did it below

Top 12 Beauty Finds of 2012

Glitter on the Ceiling:Top 12 Beauty Finds of 2012

2012 was not only a great year for fashion, but a great year for beauty. I never got into the ombre hair trend and I’ve never been a false eyelash kind of girl, but there were some products I tried in the last 12 months that have quickly become part of my daily and nightly regimen. Here are my top 12 beauty products for 2012!

1. MAC Oil Control Lotion {$31} I have oily skin. Scratch that, I have VERY oil skin and this lotion/moisturizer from MAC controls the excess oil my skin produces. It doesn’t dry my skin like other “oil control lotions”. I use to go through packs of oil absorbent sheets, but now my skin stays just the right amount of oil free.

2. Bumble & Bumble Straight Blow Dry {$28} This helps me get a sleek and straightest blow out. Not only does this stuff protect my hair from the heat of my blow dryer, flat iron and curler, it also smells amazing!

3. Sheercover Base Perfecter Primer {$43} On top of oily skin, I have large pores (I know, I’m blessed). After I apply my toner and MAC lotion and put a nickel size dollop  of this primer on my cheeks, nose and chin. I’ve used a countless number of primers and this product gives my makeup the perfect matte finish without making me oily.

4. Bliss Body Butter {$29} The title says it all, make your body feel as smooth as butter, but makes you smell like hints of lemon and sage. It’s pretty addicting.

5. Joico K-Pak Protect and Shine Serum {$15} Forget hairspray, when I have little fly away hairs, this serum does the trick. I use about a dime size amount and put it on my ends and my bangs, taking away any tiny bit of frizz and sealing everything off nicely.

6. Origins Eye Doctor Cream {$34} The skin around your eye is the most sensitive area on your face, treat  it with lots of care. Something I noticed when I was shopping for eye creams is that they’re SO expensive! I’m a firm believer that they’re just some things you need to spend more on, but $110 for an eye cream was not something I could bring myself to do. This product not only has hydrated and improve my eye area, but it’s less than $50 and it’s all natural. That’s a win in my beauty book.

7. Proactiv Deep Cleansing Brush {$39} I got this in my Beauty Con gift bag and I don’t think I’ve loved any beauty tool more. I use it at least once a week, sometimes twice and within a couple of weeks I had notice my skin looking SO much better. If you have oily skin you should be exfoliating once a week, dry skin about once every two weeks.

8. Lorac Pro Mascara {$23} I was lucky to also get this at Beauty Con and I love this mascara! On more than a couple occasions people thought I was wearing faux-lashes! When I use this mascara, I never have to curl my lashes, it’s awesome.

9. Urban Decay Brow Box {$29} Everything you need for your brows in one tiny box. Two colors, wax, the ideal brush and tweezers. Perfection.

10. Revlon 1″ Curling Iron {$15} In June I decided I wanted to start doing something different to my hair other than my pin straight look, I wanted the soft waves. Several YouTube videos and this amazing, yet inexpensive tool made that possible.

11. Makeup Forever Sens’Eyes {$24} This eye makeup remover takes off everything and I mean everything. From waterproof mascara to stubborn glitter eyeshadow, there is nothing this lip and eye makeup remover cannot handle.

12. Philosophy Purity Facial Cleanser {$32} The first time I used this cleanser was ON New Years Day, well more like 4:00am after a night out. My friend let me borrow some of her’s and when I woke up the next morning and my skin felt amazing I knew I had to add this one-step cleanser to my regimen because any product that can wash off a night New Years Eve makeup is a keeper!

BeautyCon 2012

Last week I attended the first ever annual BeautyCon event hosted by B.F.V.A (Beauty and Fashion Vlogger’s Alliance) and Youtube at the Google headquarters in Venice. The event was equipped with various companies, panel discussions, food, drinks and delicious cupcakes.

White Hot+Traffic-Stopper Copper

I got my Sephora goodies in the mail on Saturday and I couldn’t wait to try my Sephora by OPI polishes. You would think I’d have a white nail polish, given it’s as common as having a red or a pink polish, but Sephora by OPI’s White Hot is my first white polish and the pigment is amazing. The glitter, Traffic-Stopper Copper (say that 10 times fast) is a perfect rose colored glitter that would look glamorous on top of any polish. I love the confetti look to the glitter and I really like how the white makes it pop.

Finding the Perfect Red Lipstick

In antiquity, the color red was thought to be the first color perceived by man, it was thought to fight off evil. In the 18th century, it was a popular color to wear as a wedding gown. Currently, in some cultures it is still popular for a bride to wear a red veil to symbolize love and fertility.

An even more powerful statement is when a woman chooses to adorn red lips. Sexy comes in different skin tones and it’s important to find a red lipstick that suits the tone of your skin.

Warm Skin Tones/Olive Skin

If you have golden skin and your hair has a golden or reddish tone, a wine or a burgundy color would be best. Try this Korres plum color.

If you have dark hair and olive skin you can get away with those fire reds. I LOVE MAC’s Russian Red as well as NARS Jungle Red.

Cool Skin Tones/Light Skin

A cooler skin tone, which is rosy or olive skin, light eyes and darker hair should try a scarlet-blue red. A red lipstick with a blue undertone, like the Bare Escentuals Red Delicious.

If you’re a lighter completion a coral-red or orange-red would suit you best. Try Illamasqua in Flare.

Vegan Alternative

My newest red lipstick obsession has been Emani Cosmetics Promiscuous. It’s long lasting, amazing on ALL skin tones and is vegan and cruelty free.

What to do With the Rest of your Face

If you’re not sure what to apply to your cheeks and eyes when wearing a red lip, the best thing is to keep it simple. Black eyeliner, mascara and a neutral or plum cheek match well with red lips. If this is an evening affair, a smokey eye complement red lips very well.
